There
are many young celebrities in Korea including singers, actors,
and athletes. Some of them are
high school students, but they don¡¯t have time to study. However,
many teenage celebrities enter prestigious universities easily. This
is because they receive special admission into universities
thanks to their fame. What do you think about
this? Here, Ju-hee and Hyun-min are talking about the topic.
Ju-hee:
Hey, what do you want to major in when you enter a
university?
Hyun-min: I¡¯ll major in Drama and Cinema.
Ju-hee: What! You have no talent in acting!
Hyun-min: I know, but I want to study
with my favorite actress. She is
majoring in Drama and Cinema.
Ju-hee: Don¡¯t be silly. Your dream is becoming
a scientist so you should major in science. Most importantly, she
doesn¡¯t even attend classes due to her busy schedule!
But she will graduate without any problem.
So you will never have a chance to study with her.
Hyun-min: Do you think it¡¯s unfair to give preference to celebrities?
Ju-hee: Of course it¡¯s unfair! Many students
study very hard to enter a university. And even after entering the
university, they study hard to graduate from it.
Hyun-min: But we should acknowledge the celebrities¡¯
talents, too. We can evaluate someone¡¯s ability with their special
talents other than their test scores. Plus, many celebrities work
very hard in their fields. And they help improve the quality of Korean
culture. Thanks to many talented Korean singers and actors, the national
image of Korea is improving, too!
Ju-hee: But some universities are using
the celebrities to promote their schools. Many
universities even offer scholarships for celebrities
to attract them. It is unfair
for the other students. They may feel discouraged to see the celebrities
who are popular, rich, and enjoying
special treatments. |
