 Everyone
has a different personality and appearance. When you meet
someone for the first time, you get
an impression about that person. This is called a
first impression. Many people say that giving a good first impression
is very important. What do you think about this? Here, Michael and
Linda are talking about the topic.
Linda: Why are you so upset, Michael?
Michael: Jason didn’t help me when I
really needed his help. I knew he would betray me! I knew he was
a bad guy from the beginning.
Linda: Ah, are you talking about the
new boy? How did you know he would betray you? Do you have magical powers or something?
Michael: Well, my first impression of
him was very negative. He didn’t seem
like a nice boy when I first saw him.
Linda: Then, do you think your first
impression of someone can tell you about that person’s personality?
Michael: Yes, most of the time, people’s
first impressions don’t change. This is why people say that your first
impression is very important.
 Linda:
Of course giving a good first impression is a good thing. But you
can’t be 100 percent on someone’s personality by his or her first
impression. Then, you are only looking at the person’s looks.
Michael: I’m not talking about people’s
looks. First impressions include their facial expressions, the way
they talk, and their attitude.
Linda: But people don’t reveal everything about themselves
when they meet someone for the first time. Also, people can change.
Michael: Yes, of course, people can change.
But their first impressions last forever. People may misunderstand you if your
first impression is bad. So I think it is important to give a good
first impression to other people. |
