Recently, American scientists
discovered the youngest known
star in the universe. The astronomers at Yale and Harvard
Universities caught the moment of the
star¡¯s formation, using a special
NASA telescope in California and
Hawaii.
The star is called ¡°L1448-IRS2E.¡± It was formed about 800 light years away from the
Milky Way. Stars form out of large, cold, dense regions of gas and dust called molecular clouds, which exist throughout the galaxy.
According to the astronomers, the youngest star is tiny. ¡°It is the most detailed image of a star¡¯s
birth until now,¡± said Xuepeng Chen from Yale, who led the study.
¡°We believe it is the earliest stage of star formation.
It¡¯s very difficult to detect objects in this phase of star formation,
because they are very short-lived and they emit very little light,¡±
he added. The scientists hope
to discover similar stars soon. |
