 I’m
sure all of you know the name of the American President. It’s Barack
Obama. But did you know that many people with the name Barack Obama
live in many other countries, too? Obama lives in Kenya. He lives
in England, too. You can also find him in many American cities! What
am I talking about?
After Barack Obama became the first African-American President, many
parents in America named their babies after the president! It’s not
difficult to find babies with the name Obama or Barack in American
cities. But a baby who was born on May 3, 2008 in Washington D.C.
is thought to be the first baby to be named after Obama in America.
“I knew that Obama would be the new president and I decided to call
my baby Obama. I want him to achieve great things in his
life like the president,” said Isha Kallay, the mother of the baby.
“Now people in my town call me Obama Momma.”
 To our surprise,
not only Americans but also many parents in other countries named
their babies after Obama! You can find a baby named Barack in Newcastle,
England. In Kenya, there are many babies who have the name Obama.
Of the 15 babies born on the night of the American presidential election, 5
boys were named Barack Obama and 3 girls were named Michelle. There
is even a school called Barack Obama in Kenya!
“My son was born on the same day as the American presidential election.
So we decided to name him after the president,” said a Kenyan mother
whose son’s name is Obama. “We want to remember that day and to
remember the first black African to be a US president. People like
President Obama and his speeches. I hope my baby
will also grow up to be a great man
like the American President because they share the same name!” |
