Former N. Korean Secretary Passes Away

On October 14, the funeral service for Hwang Jang-yop, the former highest-ranking North Korean official, was held at a hospital in Seoul. He passed away on October 10 at the age of 87 due to a heart attack.
The former secretary of the North Korean Workers Party³ëµ¿´ç was also the advisor to the current leader Kim Jong-il.

However, he fled from the North and came to the South in 1997 because he believed in democracy after all. After coming to South Korea, Hwang played an important role in letting the world know the reality of the secretive communist nation.
He also worked hard for the unification of the Korean Peninsula. In recognition of his great contributions, he was given the Grand Order of Mugunghwa¹«±ÃÈ­ÈÆÀå by the government.

Now he is resting in peace at the National Cemetery±¹¸³ÇöÃæ¿ø in Daejeon.
