are common scenes in a famous designer’s fashion show in Milan? Models
strutting on the catwalk and celebrities carefully
eyeing the collections are
common scenes. With that being said, I guess it’s not at every fashion
show that you see prison guards by the catwalk.
Recently at Milan’s San Vittore prison, female inmates launched their own women’s
wear line and showcased a collection of
three white wedding dresses in a glamorous fashion show in
the jail’s courtyard.
Prisoners and former inmates learned tailoring skills from a local
cooperative that hopes to
help women behind bars. They displayed stylish dresses alongside creations by Italy’s
big names like Giorgio Armani and Prada. The cooperative has been
running for 16 years in Milan’s jails and its focus is to help women
acquire variety of skills
for life outside of prison.
Well, this news of Italian women launching a fashion show in a prison
sure sounds weird. However, it must have been a beautiful moment for
the talented ladies behind bars.
